Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: When I am in a trance will I do something that I find unacceptable?
- A: No, a hypnotheraptist will not make you do something that is embarrasing, shocking or irreversable. A trance state can be terminated by you at any time.
- Q: How would I be put into a trance?
- A: The therapist would talk you through a progressive muscle relaxation technique, or focussing on a specific point in the room, or a candle. The therapist would use visualisation techniques to futher deepen the trance, using a visual memory like a sunny day in the garden or a day on the beach on holiday. Once you are in a trance the hypnotherapist makes positive suggestions aimed at changing the behaviour you choose to change yourself. If a client came asking for help to stop smoking because his family want him to stop smoking, and he didn't want to stop himself, the hypnotherapy would be unlikely to work.
- Q: What if I was left in a trance state or fell asleep?
- A: You would either return to full consciousness on your own or enter a natural sleep and awaken after a short, pleasant nap.
- Q: Could I harm myself?
- A: No, hypnotherapy has a reputation as being very safe. If there was any risk of self-harm then the hypnotherapist would refer you back to your GP to get more appropriate professional help.

- Q: What is the cost of sessions if I choose to go ahead with hypnotherapy?
- A: £45 per hour. A session is one hour long.
- Q: How many sessions am I likely to need?
- A: It varies, one paid session for smoking cessation, two to four for anxiety management, three to four for weight loss. Everyone is an individual it varies from person to person. You could always come back for top-up sessions if required.
